Somewhere at the intersection of indie, folk, and soul, you’ll find Beharie. His voice is rich, powerful, and raw in its delivery – qualities that complement his increasingly personal songwriting, reaching new heights on his upcoming second album, When The Silence Gets Too Loud.
An album that shifts between the grand and the intimate, with goosebump-inducing choral arrangements, dramatic instrumentation, and warm acoustic moments featuring guitar and Beharie’s expressive vocals. This, combined with meticulous lyricism and an exploration of contrasts between the grand and the subtle, makes Beharie more self-assured in his artistry than ever before.
The first single from the album, “Everybody Tells Me To Let Go”, is a song about suppression, about not being able to be oneself, and about being told a truth one does not fit into. The song carries a nerve that, despite its theme, remains hopeful through its instrumental energy and message.
Balancing playfulness and seriousness is a common thread in Beharie’s music. His lyrics are vulnerable and honest, as if written in a state of deep reflection. He allows the listener to come close, drawing inspiration from lived experiences, conveyed with an immediacy that creates the feeling of being invited into an intimate space – an experience that extends to his live performances.
Although the musician from Sandnes draws inspiration from established artists within soul, R&B, and folk, he has crafted a sound that is distinctly Beharie.
As a live artist, Beharie has quickly established himself as one of Norway’s foremost names, with the ability to create magical moments on any stage through his unique presence. He has performed for packed audiences in everything from intimate club settings to the main stage at Øyafestivalen and a sold-out Rockefeller.
Collaborations with renowned institutions such as the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK) highlight his musical versatility and his ability to elevate his songs to new heights.
A headline tour across Europe and performances at prestigious international festivals such as Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Storsjöyran (Sweden), Eurosonic (Netherlands), and Reeperbahn Festival (Germany) clearly show that he has already made his mark internationally.
His career so far reflects both an artist in constant evolution and one who has already left a significant imprint:
A Spellemann Award (Norwegian Grammy) in the R&B/Soul category in 2022 for his EP Beharie // Beharie, nominations in the same category in 2023 for Beharie, the Third, and in 2024 for his critically acclaimed debut album Are You There, Boy?.
International media outlets such as Wonderland, COLORS, and Clash have also embraced him, and Swedish GAFFA nominated him for International Breakthrough of the Year.
